Why practice tongue cleaning?

The practice of tongue cleaning has its origin in Ayurvedic – 5000 years old natural healing systems and is considered an essential part of proper oral care. This ancient practice improves digestion, sense of taste, and removes toxins and bacteria from the oral cavity. Tongue massaging activates communication between the mouth, the gut, and the brain that helps to clear and invigorate the mind and is a great way to start the day.

Why copper?

Our tongue cleaner is hand-made from 100% pure copper. Ancient civilizations exploited the antimicrobial properties of copper long before the concept of microbes became understood. Studies have shown that copper can kill micro-organisms like mold, fungi, algae, and bacteria.

Additionally, copper in contact with saliva helps to maintain the body’s pH balance.

We choose copper over steel because of these benefits.

How to use the tongue cleaner.

To benefit most from using a tongue scraper, we recommend gently scraping the tongue, starting from the back to front for 7 to 14 strokes. The scraper may be rinsed off between strokes if there is much accumulation.

If you experience the gag reflex while cleaning it can indicate that the scraping is too aggressive. If this occurs with gentle scraping, begin slightly more forward on the tongue to avoid the gagging reflex. The practice should be a comfortable addition to your regular dental hygiene.

How to care for the tongue cleaner.

Method 1

  • Pour vinegar and salt into a pan and bring to the boil. You’ll need approximately 3 parts vinegar to 1 part salt.
  • Place the tongue scraper into the bowl and leave for 10-15 minutes.
  • Use a cloth to remove any dirt or tarnishing.
  • Rinse the tongue scraper in water.
  • Polish up with a clean, soft, dry cloth.

  • Rinse and polish up with a clean, soft, dry cloth.
